Sandra Negley is an Emeritus Associate Professor (Lecturer) and past Program Director of Recreational Therapy at the University of Utah. in the College of Health, Department of Occupational and Recreational Therapies. She taught for over 30 years and authored four clinical practice books, textbook chapters, numerous journal articles and contemporary publications.
Sandra worked in the mental health community for 40 years and served on numerous local, state, and national committees representing individuals with mental health needs and the practice of Recreational Therapy. She worked at the Universities' Neuropsychiatric Institute for 23 years where she served as Director of Expressive Therapies, Director of Adolescent Services, and Founder and Director of the organization's Self-Esteem Institute.
Sandra is a Past President of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) and of the Utah Recreation Therapy Association (URTA) and served on the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification's (NCTRC) Board of Directors. She has been recognized for her professional contributions with numerous honors and awards: ATRA-"Distinguished Fellow Award", "Outstanding Professional Award"; and "Excellence in Education Award"; UTRA-"Distinguished Service Award", "Outstanding Member Award" and "Outstanding Program Awards"; UU-"Outstanding Alumni Award," "Outstanding Program Award", and "Distinguished Teaching Award."
