Viola Van has worked in almost all levels of government including the U.S. House of Representatives as a Field Representative for Congresswoman Judy Chu and a few positions at non-profit organizations in Chinatown and Pomona. She has also served as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner for the City of Walnut. Viola holds a Master’s in Public Health, is well-versed in local government, and is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. Prior to coming to the Corona Community Services Team, Viola worked for the City of Claremont’s Human Services and Police Departments. At the Human Services Department, she supported the Human Services Department in administration and worked with the Director of Human Services in creating and implementing the City’s Homeless Services Plan. She organized the City’s Homeless Summit, which brought Community-Based Organizations, local community stakeholders, and elected officials in the San Gabriel Valley to work towards strategies and policies to house unsheltered individuals in Claremont. She facilitated collaboration with the surrounding region, which brought critical Measure H dollars to develop policies and initiatives to get the unsheltered residents the mental health and health resources they need in addition to housing. At the Claremont Police Department, she supported the Chief of Police. She spearheaded the Department’s social media program to bridge the communication between the PD and the community and its residents to allow for another way to foster community-based policing. She is currently a Management Analyst II for the City of Corona. Her duties include overseeing the budget, administration, grants, the City's Community Mural Project, Community-Based Oraganizations grant administration, special projects, and everything else in between!
