Jacqueline “Jackie" Lopez, BA Fine Art is a Senior Recreation Director for the Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP) Adaptive Sports Division in Los Angeles, CA. Her career began as a part-time employee with the Department of Recreation and Parks in the Therapeutic Recreation Section where she provided Inclusive and Adaptive Art Classes to youth and their families in South Los Angeles. In 2020, Jackie served as a shelter manager for one of the largest COVID 19 (24 hour) shelters for the City of Los Angeles. During this time, she supervised and managed a team of up to forty full-time and part-time employees. Maintained a well-organized operation and safe environment for up to 120 unhoused adults per day over a 7-month period. She is a member of the RAP Emergency Response Action Team, tasked with preparing, planning and leading the Department during emergency activations. Jackie is also a member of the Citywide Training Committee, responsible for presenting professional development trainings for all full-time Recreation and Aquatic professionals in the Department. She serves currently as the Senior Recreation Director for the Citywide Adaptive Sports Program sponsored by LA28. She was requested to be the first Senior Recreation Director for PlayLA Adaptive Sports. Jacqueline was instrumental in the development of the annual PlayLA budget for all PlayLA Adaptive Sport Programs citywide. She is responsible for the PlayLA Adaptive Surf, Blind Soccer and Adaptive Archery Programs. The Adaptive Team is prepared and committed to providing quality adaptive sport programming to youth of all abilities. Through her work over the last 19 years with at-risk youth, children of all abilities and families with disproportionate socioeconomic backgrounds, Jackie has learned that diverse recreation opportunities at the community level can be fun and powerful tools for long lasting success for the City of Los Angeles.
