Ashika Lal is currently the Communication and Media Officer for Southgate Recreation & Park District located in the heart of the diverse city of Sacramento, she also serves on the CPRS District 2 Board of Directors as President for the 2023/24 year. She has been in Parks and Recreation for over 20 years. Originally from Southern California, she began her career in parks and recreation with the City of Downey, since moving to Northern California, she has worked for Fairytale Town (a landmark destination) and Carmichael Recreation & Park District. Passionate about marketing & communications, Ashika has previously presented at CPRS Conference in 2020, "What Marketing Department? A Guide to Social Media".
On her personal time, her passion project is producing a weekly podcast which has been running for over two years on all major platforms. The Timepass Podcast, highlights the experience of first generation born children of immigrant parents from an Indo-Fijian and South Asian background as they navigate through dating, relationships and day-to-day life, while balancing religion, culture and their parents ideologies. After three seasons, her podcast was recently syndicated and you can now find her show on Rukus Avenue Radio. Rukus Avenue Radio is the #1 South Asian radio and podcast network with over 9 million listeners monthly.
Ashika was recently invited to join Sacramento State University's Department of Recreation, Parks, Tourism and Adminsitration Advisory Committee where she looks forward to serving the students of Sac State and advancing the parks and recreation profession at the university level. Ashika enjoys sharing everything she has learned over the years in parks and recreation and communications with young professionals and students-she loves to learn new things herself daily!
