Laura Island, RTC is the Principal Recreation Supervisor II for the West LA area of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and helps to oversee the Adaptive Sports Division of PlayLA. She is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Major in Recreation Administration with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. She has been a certified Recreation Therapist for over 30 years and employed by the City of Los Angeles since 1988. She has served on the Special Education Commission for the Los Angeles Unified School District and has been a Recreation Therapy consultant working in group homes and day programs in Metropolitan Los Angeles and the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. Laura's work experience also includes grant writing, team building, staff training, coordinating large special events and collaborating with community groups and leaders.
