Session Description: Over the decades, master plans have become the standard for imagining an organization’s future. A solid effort enhances a community’s character and livability, garners advocacy, and helps direct policy – all good things. BUT, when a master plan includes unicorns and rainbows that cannot be afforded, it can compromise community trust and lead to lost opportunities. Designing master plans built upon financial reality are honest, considerate, and smart.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to articulate the purpose of master planning in parks and recreation.
Upon completion, participants will be able to analyze the elements of master planning given today’s social, economic, and environmental conditions.
Upon completion, participants will be able to evaluate the content of a quality master plan RFP so that the process is relevant to their community’s realities and conditions.
