Session Description: Have you been seeing an increase in the number of diverse populations that are wanting to access your programs? Having the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide reasonable accommodations and adaptations may be out of the scope of your staffs practice. Moore Recreation Therapy Consulting Inc. provided an assessment of current programs and practices of a municipal parks and recreation department and identified best practices and areas for growth in therapeutic recreation and inclusive practices. Utilizing this case study, participants will learn about the assessment process and strategic ways to increase programming and opportunities to serve individuals with disabilities and other diverse populations.
Learning Objectives:
Learn three strategies for including individuals with disabilities in your programming.
Identify three ways to assess your own municipal parks and recreation department for inclusive practices and accessibility to serve individuals with disabilities.
Utilizing a case study, participants will develop an understanding of three outcomes from an assessment and create strategic plans to incorporate inclusive practices and increase programming and adaptations to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.
