10:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Room: 10
Eligible for 0.1 CEUs
Session Description: Join Joe Harris from the City of Santa Clarita to find out how augmented reality (AR) is being used to share fun, interpretive and educational programming with youth in the city’s communities. Their main focus is on creating engaging ‘Missions’ that introduce people to new parts of Santa Clarita. The purpose of this presentation will be to share the city’s ongoing AR-based educational programs and their role in the community, and to discuss the effectiveness of using AR technology to engage learners everywhere.
Joe will be joined by Mary Clark, CEO of Agents of Discovery, who will describe how augmented reality learning tools impact the neural activity of digital natives and lead to better learning outcomes. Participants in the session will also be invited to try out a play-at-home Mission to get a feel for how these programs work and how they can be used to provide interpretive experiences for learners on site and at home.
Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate how AR can be used to get youth interested and engaged in content created and shared by municipalities.
Describe the benefits of using AR technology to get youth physically active and exploring their communities.
Describe how AR can be used to create portable programs that can be used in a diversity of ways, including for special events.
